Programme Overview
The 2026 Open Startup program consists of two tracks: the Pre-Seed Track, designed for startups validating their solutions, and the Seed Track, aimed at startups ready to scale. The program spans from September 2026 to February 2027, providing a structured path to commercialization supported by pilots, customers, or industry partnerships, and tailored support for growth and investment readiness.
Funding and Benefits
Selected startups are eligible for mission-aligned investment tickets of up to $20,000 to support their seed fundraising rounds. Participation includes access to intensive training bootcamps, personalized mentorship from regional and global experts, strategic connections, ecosystem and market exposure, investor and corporate engagement, commercialization support, and continuous program assistance. A 1% mission-aligned give-back mechanism via a SWEAT SAFE note applies only to second-phase Seed Program participants to support the program’s ecosystem development efforts.
Eligibility
Applicants must be incorporated and operate primarily in an African country, demonstrate proficiency in English, have a committed founding team, and be actively available to participate in program activities. Startups should leverage technology to solve problems relevant to African markets and fall within the program’s sector and stage criteria.
Business Stage and Sectors
Two tracks serve different stages: Pre-Seed Track for startups validating solutions with early prototypes or proof of concept (TRL 3-5) and Seed Track for startups demonstrating validated technology, product-market fit, and scaling potential. Sectors of interest include Climate & Sustainability (Agritech, CleanTech, Renewable Energy, WaterTech, Circular Economy, Waste Management), AI and emerging technologies (AI, Robotics, SaaS), Health and Well-being (HealthTech, MedTech, BioTech, Diagnostics, Telemedicine), and other high-impact fields such as FinTech, EdTech, Logistics, and Supply Chain.
Geography
Eligible startups must be incorporated in and operate primarily within African countries. They must have teams proficient in English and work on technology solutions addressing African market challenges.
Deadline
The application deadline is July 31st, 2026. Applications must be complete to be considered, and active participation in program activities is required.
How to Apply
Interested startups should submit a complete application through the Open Startup official website before the deadline. Following selection, Seed Track startups entering the second program phase must sign a SWEAT SAFE agreement to access additional benefits.
Important Notes
Participation includes a 1% mission-aligned give-back mechanism implemented via a SWEAT SAFE note for selected Seed Track startups in the second phase.
